Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was founded in 1855 as the nation’s first pediatric hospital. Through its long-standing commitment to providing exceptional patient care, training new generations of pediatric healthcare professionals, and pioneering major research initiatives, the 595-bed hospital has fostered many discoveries that have benefited children worldwide. The institution has a well-established history of providing advanced pediatric care close to home through its CHOP Care Network, which includes more than 50 primary care practices, specialty care and surgical centers, urgent care centers, and community hospital alliances throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as an inpatient hospital with a dedicated pediatric emergency department in King of Prussia. In addition, its unique family-centered care and public service programs have brought Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recognition as a leading advocate for children and adolescents.

Grounded in world-class science and technology and rooted in communities – the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service connects people to nature and each other. As a Federal agency serving the American people, the Forest Service cares for shared natural resources in ways that promote lasting economic, ecological, and social vitality. Prescribe Outside is supported by Urban Connections, an outreach program in the Eastern Region of the USDA Forest Service. Formed in 2001, the program aims to engage urban communities and build relationships, better fulfilling the agency’s mission of “Caring for the Land and Serving People.” The Forest Service has a long history of working with people who live near National Forests. While this is of great value to the agency, Urban Connections seeks to expand this involvement to residents of major metropolitan areas. The Eastern Region has 9 of the country’s top 20 largest metropolitan areas, making it uniquely positioned to connect with diverse and underserved citizens.

Let’s Go Outdoors (LGO) is an extraordinary outdoor-focused organization serving constituents and communities in Philadelphia, PA and the surrounding region. LGO’s primary mission is to connect city communities to outdoor and/or environmental experiences, especially for under-represented groups and people of color. With nearly 10+ years of serving neighborhoods, youth through adults, and residents of Philadelphia, Let’s Go Outdoors has become a trusted leader in engaging urbanites in community outdoor programs. Led by twin sisters, Keisha and Tarsha Scovens, along with a dedicated and nurturing team of 20+ Educators/Employees, LGO is spearheading a movement for Philadelphians and others, to engage with their local outdoor spaces.

Awbury Arboretum

Awbury Arboretum is a 56-acre property located in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia and has been a natural resource to the public for over 100 years. Visitors can tour the grounds, free of charge, 365 days a year. The Arboretum provides educational programming and community events. Awbury Arboretum focuses on the education, promotion, and administration of the project.

Temple University Center for Sustainable Communities conducts integrated social and environmental research on natural, technological and socioeconomic systems to address the challenges of sustainability—how can we meet the needs of people locally and globally through equitable, innovative and practical solutions that protect the environment which sustains life on the planet. The Center conducts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research for sustainable development and draws on expertise from across the social and environmental sciences and diverse methodological approaches that include geospatial analysis and techniques, community-based research and citizen science.

Sierra Club Pennsylvania Chapter

The Sierra Club’s Pennsylvania Chapter is the only member-led statewide environmental organization in Pennsylvania, and believes that PA’s open spaces, clean water, and natural resources should be protected so that current and future generations may enjoy them. In addition to offices in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia, there are nine active regional groups all across the state that help people explore, enjoy, and protect the state’s many environmental resources and fight for safe and livable communities.
